Asia Cup 2025: Pakistan’s Bold Squad Selection and the Exit of Senior Stars

Pakistan’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025 is out — and honestly, this bold decision took everyone by surprise.

Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Naseem Shah
are all left out. Unsurprisingly, fans and some ex-players have taken to social media, asking for these veterans to be reinstated. Honestly? Most of this feels like a popularity contest. Likes, retweets, and clout-chasing and not cricket logic.

Let me be clear: Babar and Rizwan have been Pakistan’s T20 anchors for nearly four years. They had their shining moment in the T20 World Cup 2021, famously beating India as an opening pair. But since then… they’ve been underwhelming. Consistently. Cricket is about current form, not past glories, and they haven’t been delivering.

The PCB has made a statement: it’s time to back players who are in form, confident, and ready to attack. Look at this squad:

  • Sahibzada Farhan, smashed consecutive hundreds in domestic cricket, and brought the same form in the International Cricket.

  • Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman, aggressive batsmen who can take the game away from opponents.

  • Mohammad Haris, a wicketkeeper-batsman who lives for boundaries.

The middle order isn’t boring either. Salman Agha brings a fresh approach, and Hassan Nawaz is in top form as a finisher.

Here’s my take: in this lineup, Babar and Rizwan don’t fit. It’s not personal — it’s strategy. Pakistan needs firepower at the top, fearless hitters, and players who are in form now, not stars resting on past reputations.

The Asia Cup 2025 will show whether this bold, fresh approach works. Personally, I’m excited. It’s time for Pakistan cricket to embrace change, give fresh talent a chance, and stop clinging to the past.
